asaI believe I first got Asa’s “Jailer” when it was a free featured song on iTunes back in 2007. This song is the first track off Asa’s debut self-titled album, and in my opinion it is one of the stronger songs of the set. Asa (pronounced Asha) grew up Lagos, Nigeria, and the unique mix of African and modern music is a strong element in her music. Since 2007, Asa has released several albums, her most recent being in 2010. Asa’s music is very simple, yet it retains great emotional value, and “Jailer,” in particular,  is quite catchy. Her songs range from soul-belting ballads to upbeat pop songs. Below you can listen to Asa performing “Jailer” live on the radio show Morning Becomes Eclectic.
