Alright, I’ve held out on Christmas music for this long, but now I am almost forced to share Leftover Cuties‘ recent Christmas EP. This four-piece band from Venice, California, has made some really nice arrangements of Christmas classics that have many various stylistic traits to them, including New Orleans jazz, and 50s doo-wop. The group truly combines a retro feel with modern musicality. Shirli McAllen does a great job on vocals for all six songs, and I was very impressed with multi-instrumentalist Mike Bolger’s trumpet fills and solos throughout the EP. Without the trumpet, I’m not sure if the album would have caught my ear. You can listen to “Santa Baby” below, and support Leftover Cuties by buying the rest of the EP here. You still have some time! Merry Christmas.
